About Amy Cross

Amy Cross Nance built a career in Tennessee law that begins with a somewhat unconventional undergraduate path and moves into a steady, solo practice. She earned a Bachelor of Science in the College Scholars program, concentrating in historic preservation, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1980. Years later she completed a Juris Doctor at Nashville School of Law, receiving her degree in 1993.

Those academic choices shaped how she approaches legal work. A background in historic preservation taught attention to detail and patience. Law school added practical training in courtroom procedure and client counseling. After earning her J.D., she entered the Tennessee legal community and has practiced in the state ever since.

Nance’s career has been largely based around running her own practice. She operates under the name Amy Cross Nance Lawyer at Law, handling the administrative and client-facing responsibilities that come with a solo practice. That experience means she manages everything from initial intake and case strategy to court filings and settlement negotiations. Over time she has become familiar with the mechanics of practicing in Tennessee courts and administrative forums.

Colleagues describe her as thorough and steady in the way she handles matters. Her work style favors methodical preparation and clear communication. She tends to take cases through the full lifecycle, from client intake to resolution, and she is known for keeping clients informed about procedural steps and realistic outcomes. That approach fits the practical demands of a small practice, where clarity and efficiency matter to clients and to the attorney managing the caseload.

Outside the office she has remained tied to Tennessee’s legal community. Her practice reflects an interest in serving local individuals and businesses on matters that arise under state law. She maintains professional ties inside the state and continues to appear before Tennessee tribunals as necessary to represent clients’ interests.

After several decades in practice, Nance’s work remains based in Tennessee. She continues to operate her solo firm, handling client representation and counseling through Amy Cross Nance Lawyer at Law. Her current practice focuses on advising and representing clients in matters governed by Tennessee law.
