Mr. Burkhalter earned his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and ranking fifth in his class. Prior to law school, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Northwestern State University, graduating cum laude. Before pursuing a legal career, he was a Certified Public Accountant with a major international accounting firm.
Mr. Burkhalter's practice focuses on business litigation, real estate litigation, corporate disputes, business and real estate transactions, and auto dealer representation. He has successfully prosecuted and defended a wide array of cases, including obtaining multiple "8 figure" jury trial awards. Notably, he secured a $70 million jury verdict against Universal Studios in a Hollywood accounting case and a $30.4 million verdict in an eminent domain case in Nashville, Tennessee.
With over 40 years of experience, Mr. Burkhalter has appeared before various courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. His extensive experience encompasses all stages of litigation, from initial case evaluation to trial proceedings.
Mr. Burkhalter is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He has been recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer for Business Litigation every year since 2006 and has been selected as one of Orange County's Top 50 Super Lawyers every year since 2018. In 2023, he was named California's Attorney of the Year in the business litigation category by Top 100 Lawyers.
