About Alfred F.M. de

Alfred F.M. de Prado earned his Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1964 after completing undergraduate studies at New York University’s Washington Square College in 1958. He read political science as an undergraduate and took a minor in French, an academic combination that informed his approach to law and public affairs throughout a long professional life. The years at NYU coincided with a period of change in the legal academy, and de Prado’s educational background reflects both a grounding in policy and an interest in language that would shape his later work.

De Prado entered the legal world at a time when the profession was expanding in scope and complexity. He graduated law school in the mid-1960s and spent the subsequent decades practicing law. That span across generations of legal reform and shifting public priorities left an imprint on how he viewed client service and legal problem-solving. Colleagues have described his style as methodical and attentive to context, traits consistent with someone trained in political analysis and fluent in French.

Throughout his career de Prado handled matters that required measured judgment and careful drafting. He developed habits common to lawyers whose training began in the 1960s: close reading of statutes, attention to legislative intent, and an insistence on precise written work. Those habits carried through a practice that adapted as new legal fields emerged and as the mechanics of practice changed with technology and procedural reform.

Education remained a reference point. De Prado’s undergraduate major in political science framed his understanding of institutions and governance. His study of French informed cross-cultural communication in professional settings and offered a different lens on legal texts. Both elements of his academic formation continued to appear in the way he approached cases and counsel.

After more than half a century in the profession, de Prado has maintained a steady presence as a practicing attorney. He has navigated shifts in the legal landscape while relying on the fundamentals of analysis and clear writing taught at NYU. His current practice centers on advising clients on legal matters.
