About Albert B.
Albert B. Kukol took a nontraditional route to the law. He began his professional life in finance and accounting before returning to school for a law degree in his late 30s. He earned a B.A. in anthropology from the College of William and Mary in 1975, followed by an MBA in finance from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1977. More than a decade later he completed his J.D. at Albany Law School in 1990.
The early part of Kukol’s career was grounded in financial management. In 1980 he worked as Manager of Budget and Cost Accounting for United Health Services, Inc., a role that involved internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting. That experience informed his later legal practice, particularly in areas where legal issues intersect with financial planning and fiscal administration.
After law school he joined Levene Gouldin & Thompson, LLP in 1990. He is admitted to practice in both New York and Pennsylvania. At the firm he has handled matters that draw on his background in finance and planning, blending legal analysis with practical fiscal considerations. His credential as a Certified Financial Planner from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards reflects that dual competence.
Kukol’s professional affiliations span several organizations that align with his practice interests. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association of the Southern Tier and the Academy of Special Needs Planners. He has been active in the New York State Bar Association and the Broome County Bar Association since the early 1990s. He was a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys from 1999 until 2014.
Colleagues describe him as methodical and detail-oriented; clients have sought him out when legal matters require careful financial structuring. He approaches cases with an eye for numbers and documentation. That perspective often shapes how he prepares estate plans, trust documents, and other financial instruments tied to legal outcomes.
Outside of practice he has remained connected to financial planning circles in the Southern Tier, attending meetings and contributing to professional conversations. His combined training in anthropology, business, and law gives him a broad view of client needs over time. He currently practices at Levene Gouldin & Thompson, LLP and concentrates his work on estate planning, special needs planning, elder law matters, and financial planning for clients in New York and Pennsylvania.
