About Afsana

Afsana Chowdhury earned her J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2012 after completing a B.A. in political science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2009. She attended law school following several years of undergraduate study and internships that shaped her interest in employment and business law.

Her early legal work began with an internship at David D. Walker, PC in 2009. While in law school she served as a research assistant at the University of Richmond School of Law in 2011 and took a legal coordinator role in business law at SquiresLaw, PLLC in 2010. In 2012 she worked as a legal extern in the Employment Law Section of the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, an experience that preceded a position as an associate handling employment litigation at Curwood Law Office, PLC that same year.

In 2014 she opened her own firm, the Law Office of Afsana Chowdhury, PLC. Since then she has run the practice and handled cases in state and federal courts. Her courtroom experience includes work in Virginia and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She has continued to represent employees in disputes arising from workplace issues, drawing on earlier litigation work and her grounding in employment law from the Attorney General’s office.

Chowdhury joined a number of professional organizations early in her career and remains active in several. She is a current member of the Fairfax Bar Association, the Virginia Employment Lawyers Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. She has served in a leadership capacity as finance chair of the Metropolitan Richmond Women’s Bar Association. She was also a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice and the Richmond Bar Association during the 2012–2013 period.

Colleagues and clients describe her as pragmatic in court preparation and careful in case development. She balances litigation demands with the administrative responsibilities of running a small firm. Her practice has ranged from intake and investigation to motions practice and trial work, reflecting the variety of tasks required in employment litigation.

She maintains an active practice in Virginia and routinely appears in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Her current practice handles employment litigation matters in Virginia and federal cases in the Eastern District of Virginia.
