About Aaron S.
Aaron S. Coltrane moved into courtroom work soon after completing law school. He built early experience in public defense, then shifted into private practice where trial work became the center of his day-to-day work. Coltrane’s trajectory has kept him close to contested cases and courtroom advocacy.
He earned a B.S.B.A. in Business Administration from Waynesburg College in 2005. He then attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, completing his J.D. in 2014 with coursework concentrated in litigation. The academic path combined business training and litigation study, offering a practical base for practice in criminal and civil courts.
Coltrane began his legal career in public service. In 2013 he worked at the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office, handling client representation on criminal matters. In 2014 he moved into private practice as a trial lawyer with Nye & Associates, PLLC. A year later he became a partner at Brabant & Coltrane, PLLC, where he took on expanded responsibilities at trial and in firm management.
He is licensed to practice in Michigan and holds a certificate of admission to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He joined the State Bar of Michigan in 2014. He is a member of the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan (since 2014), the Michigan Association of Justice (since 2014), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (since 2016). Those affiliations reflect his ongoing engagement with professional organizations that focus on trial practice and criminal defense.
At Brabant & Coltrane, PLLC Coltrane is listed as partner and trial lawyer. The firm maintains a main office and a satellite office. Coltrane’s work has centered on courtroom representation and preparation for trial, drawing on his years in public defense and subsequent private-practice litigation.
