Mr. Shumway earned his Juris Doctor degree from the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Utah, receiving a Master of Business Administration in 1981. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Utah State University, obtained in 1973. During his time at McGeorge School of Law, he was involved in various legal clinics and externships, gaining practical experience in construction law.
Mr. Shumway concentrates his practice in the areas of construction law, bankruptcy, business law, and real estate. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving construction disputes, contract negotiations, bankruptcy proceedings, and real estate transactions. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. He has also handled appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Throughout his career, Mr. Shumway has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Placer, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Sacramento for five years.
Mr. Shumway is an active member of the California State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He holds membership in the Construction Law Section of the California State Bar. He is also a certified mediator through the California Dispute Resolution Council. Mr. Shumway is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of the Sacramento area effectively.
