About William R. Van Dusen
William R. Van Dusen Jr. built a career that began in the classroom and moved steadily into courtrooms and government offices. He holds a B.A. in Pre-Law (1981) and an M.A. in Philosophy (1985) from the University of Colorado Boulder. He later earned a J.D. from the University of Denver (1988) and an LL.M. in Tax from the University of Denver (2010). Those degrees underpin a practice that crosses public service, municipal law and tax matters.
After completing his legal studies, Van Dusen entered public service in southern Colorado. In 1994 he became a deputy district attorney in the Third Judicial District, based in Walsenburg. The role gave him courtroom experience in criminal prosecution and exposure to trial procedure in rural districts. He handled a range of matters typical of a busy district attorney’s office and learned to manage caseloads across a geographically broad jurisdiction.
He moved from county-level work into municipal law in 1997, serving as assistant city lawyer for the City of Arvada. That position involved advising city departments, drafting municipal ordinances and representing the city in administrative and legal proceedings. Two years later he joined state government as an assistant lawyer general in the Appellate Division of the Office of the Lawyer General for the State of Colorado. There he worked on appellate briefs and argued points of law arising from lower-court rulings, shaping legal positions taken by the state on appeal.
In 2000 he opened The Van Dusen Law Office LLC. The practice provided a platform for private-client work and courtroom advocacy. In 2010 he also took on in-house counsel duties at Integrity Financial Associates, Inc., where he handled corporate legal matters alongside his private practice responsibilities. His career therefore spans public prosecution, municipal advisement, state appellate work, private practice and corporate counsel work.
Van Dusen is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and in Colorado. He holds memberships in the Colorado Bar Association and the Boulder County Bar Association, reflecting ongoing ties to the legal community. Over the years his caseload has included appellate work and tax-related matters, and he has experience advising governmental clients as well as private and corporate clients.
He continues to practice from The Van Dusen Law Office LLC, balancing courtroom appearances, appellate drafting and tax law matters in Colorado and federal tribunals. His current practice focuses on appellate litigation, tax disputes and municipal law matters.
