About William Patrick Schmitz

William Patrick Schmitz Jr earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 2013, where he studied political science and economics. He stayed on the legal track and completed a J.D. at the University of Illinois College of Law in 2016. Those years on campus shaped his approach to law: methodical, evidence-based and attentive to both policy and practical outcomes.

After law school he entered practice in Illinois and is admitted to the Illinois bar. He spent his early years learning courtroom routine and client counseling. Those formative years included litigation dockets, client interviews and the routine grunt work that teaches a lawyer how files move from intake to resolution. He learned when to push and when to step back.

His career brought him to Malman Law, where he joined a team handling matters for clients across the state. At the firm he has taken on responsibilities that range from drafting pleadings and preparing briefs to advising clients on procedural posture. Colleagues describe him as someone who prefers clear analysis over flourish. He tends to write plainly and argue directly.

In practice he blends the analytical training of his undergraduate studies with the practical skills acquired in law school and on active files. That combination shows up in how he approaches case strategy. He reviews the record carefully. He looks for gaps the other side cannot easily repair. He prepares witnesses and organizes documents so they tell a coherent story. He manages deadlines and milestones to reduce surprises.

Outside of active case work, he has stayed involved in continuing legal education and firm-level training. He has taught newer associates about courtroom procedure and file management. He views those responsibilities as part of practicing law rather than separate tasks. The day-to-day work of a law firm, he says, is a mix of thinking, drafting and steady client contact.

His colleagues see him as steady under pressure. Clients see him as accessible and straightforward. He handles both courtroom assignments and behind-the-scenes preparation. His current practice centers on his work at Malman Law in Illinois.
