About William G

William G Peterson has built a legal career that reaches back to the late 1960s. His path includes public service, private practice and a seat in the Minnesota legislature. He has maintained a presence in law across several Midwestern jurisdictions for decades.

Peterson earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1969. That same year he began work in public legal service. The degree provided the foundation for a career that moved quickly from government into private practice and politics.

Early in his career he served as an assistant lawyer general in the Office of the Minnesota Lawyer General. That position placed him on the front lines of state legal work at the beginning of his professional life. He handled matters for the office and gained experience in the types of issues that state lawyers address.

Peterson shifted to private practice in the late 1970s. In 1978 he established Peterson & Associates Ltd., launching a small firm that reflected his transition out of full-time government work. A year later he entered the political arena and served in the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1979. His time in the legislature overlapped with his work as a practicing attorney and informed his understanding of statutory and regulatory questions.

In 1997 he formed Peterson Law Office, LLC and has operated that practice since. Over the years he has maintained the ability to practice across state lines. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota, which has allowed him to serve clients with matters touching more than one state. His career shows long-term involvement in both courtroom and office settings.

Colleagues and clients see a lawyer shaped by decades of varied experience — government service, elected office and long-term private practice. He continues to run Peterson Law Office, LLC and handles matters across the states where he is admitted to practice. His current work is centered at Peterson Law Office, where he serves clients in matters that arise in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
