About Brian

Brian Chmielewski studied journalism and political science at Indiana University Bloomington, finishing his undergraduate degree in 1993. He also completed a minor in psychology. A decade later he returned to formal study of the law, earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago John Marshall Law School in 2006. Those two academic strands — reporting and law — shape how he prepares for hearings and drafts filings. He pays attention to facts and to how those facts are presented.

After law school Chmielewski built a practice that crosses state lines. He is licensed to practice in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. That bi-state footing informs his case intake and strategy. The rules, deadlines and courtroom cultures in each jurisdiction differ. He keeps track of those differences and adjusts how he presents matters accordingly.

His professional life includes membership in legal associations, and he has remained active in those circles. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his work. He favors clear briefs and careful record-building. His background in journalism appears again in his client communications. He tends to write plainly. Clients and opposing counsel see the same attention to detail whether a document is a motion, a discovery response or a settlement proposal.

Chmielewski established the Chmielewski Law Office to provide a base for his practice. The office serves as a hub for matters filed across his admitted jurisdictions. He manages casework there and directs intake, litigation planning, and negotiation efforts from that location. He handles procedural and substantive steps that move a file from initial consultation through resolution.

Outside formal filings he spends time preparing witnesses and organizing evidence. He emphasizes practical preparedness in depositions and hearings. He also watches procedural developments in both Wisconsin and Minnesota so he can adapt strategies when rules or case law change. He prefers to be prepared rather than surprised on the courthouse steps.

In his current practice Chmielewski continues to serve clients through the Chmielewski Law Office, handling matters in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
