About William Earl

William Earl Winfield is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1985. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Winfield is a partner at Nelson Comis Kettle & Kinney LLP, a law firm located in Ventura, California. He has been practicing law for over 40 years, serving clients throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as well as the northern portion of Los Angeles County.

Mr. Winfield earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he graduated in 1985. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1982. During his time at the University of Utah, he was a member of the Utah Law Review and the Journal of Contemporary Law.

Mr. Winfield concentrates his practice in the areas of business bankruptcy, real estate law, and civil litigation. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, foreclosure actions, and complex commercial disputes. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.

Throughout his career, Mr. Winfield has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Ventura, the United States District Court for the Central, Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He has also served as a mediator for the United States Bankruptcy Court and as an arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers and the Ventura County Superior Court, where he has also served as a visiting judge.

Mr. Winfield is an active member of the Ventura County Bar Association, where he served as Chairman of the Bankruptcy Section from 1994 to 1998. He is also a member of the State Bar of California, the California Bankruptcy Forum, the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum, the Commercial Law League of America, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is board certified in business bankruptcy by the American Board of Certification. Mr. Winfield is fluent in English and Dutch, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
