About Walter Shaw

Walter Shaw III studied politics and law before turning to practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Law & Society from the University of California, Riverside, and later received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law. Those two institutions shaped his approach to courtroom work and case analysis.

After law school he established a practice in California. He has built a career handling criminal matters for clients across the state. Shaw's caseload has often included driving-under-the-influence cases. That work led him to join peer organizations that concentrate on DUI defense and related criminal law issues.

Members of the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD) tend to pursue specialized training and peer review. Shaw is a current member of the NCDD. He participates in educational programs and discussions that revolve around the technical and legal issues that arise in impaired-driving prosecutions. Those gatherings give him exposure to scientific and procedural developments that affect case strategy.

Colleagues describe Shaw as a methodical advocate. He prepares for trial and for negotiations with attention to forensic detail and evidentiary questions. He often examines breath and blood testing procedures, stop-and-arrest protocols, and records that bear on a client's physical condition and driving conduct. He also handles related motions and hearings that can determine whether key evidence is allowed at trial.

Shaw runs Shaw 3 Law Office. His practice addresses the legal needs of people facing misdemeanor and felony charges stemming from alleged impaired driving and other criminal conduct. He represents clients at arraignments, plea negotiations, pretrial hearings and trials. His work includes both courtroom advocacy and preparation of technical defenses tied to testing and procedure.

Outside of casework he attends continuing legal education and professional forums to stay current on changing laws and forensic methods. That ongoing learning informs his courtroom decisions and client consultations. He is based in California and maintains an active practice there. He currently practices at Shaw 3 Law Office, handling DUI and other criminal matters in California.
