About W. Andrew
W. Andrew Patzig grew up interested in business and systems. He studied both at Radford University, earning degrees in business and information systems before turning to law. Those early studies shaped how he approaches clients and cases: methodical, detail-oriented, and grounded in practical concerns.
Patzig began his legal work in the public sector. He served as a legal clerk in the Office of the Commonwealth Lawyer in 2009. That role exposed him to courtroom procedure and the mechanics of state litigation. He moved into private practice as an associate at the Law Office of Heath J. Thompson in 2011. A year later he took an in-house position as Business Regulation Counsel at Portfolio Recovery Associates, where he handled regulatory issues arising from debt collection and business compliance.
In 2014 he opened the Law Office of W. Andrew Patzig. He ran a solo practice for two years before forming a partnership in 2016 at Colaw Patzig & Howell. He returned to sole ownership the following year and established Patzig Law in 2017. The path from clerk to company counsel to firm owner shows a lawyer comfortable in different settings. He has worked inside corporations, in small firms, and in his own practice.
Patzig is admitted to practice in Virginia and is authorized to appear before the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Federal Circuit. He is active in the local and state bar community. He has been a member of the Virginia Bar Association since 2010 and joined the Virginia Beach Bar Association in 2014. Within the Virginia Beach Bar he serves on the JDR Committee. Since 2020 he has served as a trustee of the Virginia Bar Foundation.
