About Venus
Venus Caruso traces her academic path through three institutions and three disciplines. She earned a B.A. in sociology from York University in 1994. She completed an M.A. in criminology at the University of South Florida in 1998. She then turned to law and received her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University in 2004.
Her legal career moved from private practice to in-house counsel and back again. She served as of counsel at Akerman beginning in 2009 and became a partner at the firm in 2013. Her years in private practice overlapped with a growing interest in regulatory and compliance work, which later shaped her in-house roles.
In 2014 she joined Synergy Ancillary Services as chief legal officer and HIPAA security officer. That position expanded her experience in healthcare privacy and data security. In 2019 she co-founded Deep CBDs and took on the role of general counsel. That move placed her at the intersection of regulated products, state and federal rules, and business operations.
In 2023 she stepped into the role of principal lawyer at Caruso Law PLLC. The firm lists her as managing principal and reflects the pivot she made toward running a small practice. Her career spans law firm partnership, corporate legal leadership, and entrepreneurship in regulated industries.
Her practice draws on years of regulatory counseling and transactional work. She has managed HIPAA compliance programs and addressed security obligations for healthcare service providers. She has also advised companies on governance, licensing, and regulatory matters in the cannabinoid product sector. In larger firms she handled commercial matters and client counseling that required coordination across practice areas and jurisdictions.
Peers and clients describe her work as pragmatic. She is known for translating regulatory text into actionable steps for business leaders. That practical bent shows in her in-house roles, where legal advice is tied to operational realities rather than abstract theory.
Outside of client work, Caruso's academic background in criminology and sociology informs a methodical approach to risk assessment and compliance design. Those disciplines contribute to how she evaluates institutional processes and anticipates regulatory scrutiny.
She is admitted to practice in Florida and maintains an active practice. She currently practices at Caruso Law PLLC, focusing on healthcare privacy, regulatory compliance, and corporate counsel services.
