About Valerie

Valerie Hedlund moved from a business undergraduate degree into a late-start law career. She holds a B.B.A. from Texas A&M University, completed in 1994, and returned to school two decades later to pursue law. She earned her J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2018.

Her academic path reflects a shift in direction rather than a straight line. After finishing her undergraduate studies in College Station, she spent years away from the classroom before enrolling at St. Mary’s in the mid-2010s. That return to study positioned her to enter the legal profession with both life experience and a formal legal education.

Hedlund is licensed to practice in Texas. Since joining the bar, she has been active in regional and national legal organizations. Her memberships, many dating from 2019 onward, include the American Bar Association and a number of Texas and San Antonio groups that serve trial lawyers and criminal defense practitioners.

Those affiliations include the San Antonio Bar Association, the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. She is listed as a current member in each of those groups, a sign of steady involvement in the professional communities that handle courtroom and litigation issues.

Her practice work has emphasized trial-level matters. Courtroom work and contested hearings comprise a substantial portion of her docket. She brings the procedural knowledge a trial lawyer needs and the practical instincts that come from years of prior professional experience outside law school. Colleagues and peers see her in local courtrooms and at association events where trial strategy and criminal defense issues are discussed.

She practices under the name Law Office of Valerie Hedlund. That firm name appears on filings and professional listings. Hedlund’s caseload covers contested litigation and criminal defense work, and she spends much of her time preparing cases for trial and representing clients in court. Her current practice concentrates on trial and litigation matters in Texas.
