About Tyson

Tyson Cross is a tax lawyer whose training and career have stayed close to tax law and litigation. He combined a law degree and an advanced tax degree early in his career and moved quickly from associate-level work to running his own practice. The result is a lawyer who spends most days on tax disputes, filings, and client counseling.

He earned an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 2012 after completing a J.D. at UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law in 2011. Before law school he studied finance at the University of Nevada–Reno, where he received a B.S. in 2008. Those credentials shaped a practice that sits at the intersection of tax technicalities and courtroom procedure.

Cross began practicing tax law after finishing his LL.M. He worked in 2012 as a tax lawyer at Richard Carpenter’s Tax Law Office, where he focused on client representation before tax authorities and initial litigation work. That role gave him direct exposure to contested tax matters and to the procedural demands of tax court practice. Colleagues from that period describe a lawyer who preferred terse, evidence-based arguments and steady courtroom preparation.

In 2014 he became principal of Cross Law, the firm he leads. The office is listed at 611 Sierra Rose Drive. He is admitted to practice in Nevada and California, and he is admitted to the United States Tax Court. His practice has handled matters at the state level and in federal tax proceedings, reflecting the mix of admissions and his LL.M. training.

Clients include individuals, small business owners, and closely held companies seeking representation in tax controversies or assistance with tax compliance. He also provides advisory work on tax issues connected to business transactions and personal tax planning. He tends to combine document review, negotiation with tax authorities, and, when necessary, formal appeals or litigation.

Colleagues say his approach is practical. He keeps analysis concrete and written work concise. He uses the classroom training from NYU to inform litigation strategy in federal tax contexts, and his state bar admissions permit him to manage cross-jurisdiction matters for clients who have business in both Nevada and California. His current practice focuses on federal and state tax controversies and tax planning for individuals and businesses.
