About Travis J.
Travis J. Tormey grew up studying political systems and criminal justice. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Rutgers University–New Brunswick/Piscataway, then went on to receive his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. Those years shaped his view of the courtroom and the role of defense counsel in the justice system.
He began his legal career in 2008 at Pinilis Halpern, where he worked on matters that introduced him to trial preparation and client counseling. In 2010 he moved to The Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall, expanding his practical experience and courtroom exposure. Colleagues from those firms recall him handling research-intensive tasks and appearing in local courts while building a client base.
In 2012 he founded The Tormey Law Office and serves as owner and partner. The firm handles criminal defense work in New Jersey courts. He is certified on the Draeger Alcotest breathalyzer, a credential relevant to cases that involve allegations of impaired driving. Professionally he belongs to the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the Criminal Defense Lawyers Club. Since 2014 he has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Trial Lawyers Association. Those memberships keep him connected to developments in criminal law and trial practice nationwide.
Tormey combines courtroom experience with technical knowledge about evidentiary tools that often appear in criminal cases. He represents clients at arraignments, pretrial hearings and trials. The firm’s files include typical criminal defense matters that arise in state court, and he regularly interacts with prosecutors and judges across New Jersey. His practice reflects a steady progression from associate roles in established firms to managing his own practice and supervising client strategy. He currently represents clients in criminal defense matters at The Tormey Law Office, LLC in New Jersey.
