About Tonya Frazier
Tonya Frazier Burleson moved into law after an early life shaped by numbers and analysis. She earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and mathematics from Birmingham-Southern College in 1987. Three years later she completed a Juris Doctor at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, graduating in 1990. The combination of quantitative training and legal education set a clear course for her work at the intersection of family matters and courtroom disputes.
She joined the Alabama State Bar in 1990 and has maintained that membership continuously. Early in her career she gained experience across the state bar’s offerings. Over time she added memberships in the Family Law Section beginning in 2009 and the Litigation Section beginning in 2014. Those affiliations reflect the professional communities that have shaped her practice and professional network.
In 1992 she founded The Burleson Firm. She remains the owner and driving force behind the firm. Over more than three decades the practice has handled a steady stream of family law cases and litigation matters. The firm’s structure allows her to manage both client representation and the day-to-day operations of a small law practice.
Her background in accounting and mathematics informs how she approaches financial aspects of cases. That training is useful in property division, support calculations and other proceedings where figures matter. She applies that analytical perspective in hearings and negotiations. She also draws on courtroom experience when disputes cannot be resolved at the negotiating table.
Peers and clients know her for a direct style and practical orientation. She aims to identify the legal and financial issues early. That helps set realistic expectations and keeps litigation focused. She has worked through contested matters and settlement negotiations in county and circuit courts across Alabama.
Outside of case work she stays active in bar activities tied to her sections. Participation in those groups has provided ongoing exposure to evolving rules and procedures relevant to family law and litigation. It also offers a forum for discussing courtroom practice and statutory developments with other members of the bar.
As of 2026 she continues to lead The Burleson Firm in Alabama, representing clients in family law and related litigation and overseeing the firm’s legal work and operations.
