About Tom
Tom Trahan joined Goranson Bain Ausley in 2024 as a family law lawyer. He came to the firm after completing his legal education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned both a J.D. and a B.A. His academic record placed him in one of the state’s larger law communities and anchored his professional interest in family law.
He began building his legal practice around the practical questions people face when relationships change. Trahan’s work involves divorce proceedings, child custody and visitation disputes, property division, and related post-judgment matters. He handles courtroom hearings and negotiated settlements, and he prepares the paperwork that often determines the pace and outcome of a case.
Colleagues describe him as methodical and direct in the way he approaches casework. He tends to short, clear exchanges with clients and longer, detail-oriented preparation behind the scenes. That combination helps in hearings where evidence must be marshaled quickly and in negotiations that require a firm grasp of both statutory law and the local practice norms.
Trahan’s training at the University of Texas provided the foundation for that approach. The UT law program emphasized both litigation skills and client counseling. He also holds an undergraduate degree from the same university, which gave him wider exposure to the social and economic issues that often surface in family disputes. He draws on that broader perspective when advising clients about financial settlements or parenting plans.
Since joining Goranson Bain Ausley, he has worked on cases that range from routine uncontested divorces to more complex matters involving valuation of assets, business interests, and contested custody arrangements. He represents individuals on both sides of those disputes. His practice requires coordinating with financial experts and, at times, mental health professionals, to develop a record that supports his clients’ legal positions.
He is licensed to practice in Texas and is based at the Goranson Bain Ausley office. He is currently practicing family law, representing clients in divorce, custody, and related domestic matters.
