About Tom
Tom Ford earned a B.A. in history from Kenyon College in 1979 and a J.D. from Cleveland State University in 1983. His academic path combined a liberal arts background and formal legal training. The two degrees set a foundation for a career that moved between courtroom work and mediated dispute resolution.
Early in his career he worked as a mediator for the City of Cleveland in 1981 and then served as a judicial law clerk to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1982. He joined the litigation ranks in New York in 1985 when he took a litigation position at Kaye Scholer in New York City. Those years gave him exposure to appellate procedure and large-firm litigation practice.
In 1992 Ford shifted his practice toward commercial litigation when he joined Rosenn Jenkins & Greenwald in Wilkes-Barre. Two years later he became part of Smithford Business Lawyers, handling business law matters and litigation in Stroudsburg and Wilkes-Barre. Those roles broadened his experience in disputes involving commercial contracts, business entities, and complex civil litigation in Pennsylvania.
In 2013 he opened Tom Ford Business Law Office, PC in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. That same year he joined PA RESOLVE Mediation Services as a certified mediator serving northeast Pennsylvania, north New Jersey, and the Southern Tier of New York. His mediation credentials extend back to an early training at the Cincinnati Institute of Justice in 1982. Additional recognitions include mediation affiliations with the American Arbitration Association in 2013, designation as a federal court mediator for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 2014, and a senior mediator listing with Mediation.com in 2014.
Ford holds admission in New York and Pennsylvania. He has maintained bar and professional ties over decades. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association since 1992 and of the Wilkes-Barre Law & Library Association since the same year. He joined the Monroe County Bar Association in 2000 and was a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 1985 until 1998. Those memberships reflect long-standing involvement in the legal communities where he has practiced.
His work spans business law, commercial litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. He has moved between courtroom litigation and mediated settlement processes throughout his career. He currently practices business law and mediation from Mount Pocono through Tom Ford Business Law Office, PC.
