About Tom
Thomas Floyd Carley built his route into law through Gonzaga University. He earned a B.A. in History and Criminal Justice in 2011 and completed his J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law in 2014. Those years in Spokane shaped the practical side of his legal training and exposed him to courtroom work early on.
While in law school he took on internships that put him inside public service and client-centered work. He served as a student intern with University Legal Assistance in 2012 and worked as a grants support intern for Kauffman & Associates in 2011. In 2013 he clerked for the Spokane County Superior Court, a role that gave him regular exposure to trial dockets and judicial decision-making.
After law school he joined Arwood Law, PLLC in 2014. The next year he added positions that broadened his practice: in 2015 he worked as a criminal defense lawyer at Jeffrey D. Barrar, P.S., and he also began operating under Carley Legal Services. Those roles reflect a move from supervised practice to handling his own matters and appearing for clients in contested settings.
Carley's qualifications include training that is commonly relied upon in impaired driving work. He holds a DWI Detection & Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Certificate recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He is also certified under Title 26 as a Guardian Ad Litem by Washington State Courts. Those credentials enable him to handle both criminal defense work and certain court-appointed responsibilities where statutory training is required.
He maintains memberships in several professional organizations relevant to criminal defense practice. He is a member of the National College for DUI Defense, the Clark County Bar Association, the Washington Defender Association, the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Inns of Court. These affiliations signal ongoing engagement with peers and continuing legal education in trial practice and defense strategy.
Clients and colleagues describe him as someone who prefers to let work and results speak for themselves. He has experience in courtroom settings, represents clients in contested hearings, and accepts court appointments that his certifications allow. He continues to practice through Carley Legal Services and handles criminal defense matters, including DWI and related issues.
