About Todd Sanford
Todd Sanford Engel built a path to law that began in a retailing classroom. He earned a B.S. in Retailing from Syracuse University in 1986 and stayed in town to attend Syracuse University College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1992. The combination of a business-oriented undergraduate degree and a traditional legal education shaped an approach that blends practical concerns and legal procedure.
Engel’s career in private practice unfolded over decades in Central New York. Records show he was a member of Nottingham, Engel, Gordon & Kerr beginning in 1998. By 2004 the firm was listed as Nottingham, Engel, & Kerr, indicating a shift in partnership structure. In 2007 he established his own practice, serving as owner and managing lawyer of Engel Law Offices.
Throughout his career he has maintained professional ties beyond his firm. He joined the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association in 1998, and he has been active in the Onondaga County Bar Association since the same year. Those memberships suggest ongoing engagement with the broader legal community in New York.
His license and practice are tied to New York, the only listed jurisdiction. Over the years his roles have included firm partner, member, and principal. Those positions required handling both the business side of running a law office and the client-side work of counseling and litigation.
Colleagues describe a lawyer who moved from larger, multi-name firms to running a smaller office where decisions rest with him. That shift to ownership is a common path for attorneys who want direct control over case selection and office management. It also puts him squarely in the role of supervising other lawyers and managing client expectations.
Today Engel practices under the Engel Law name and continues to be listed as the firm’s managing lawyer. He remains a member of major bar organizations and practices in New York. He currently focuses his practice on matters arising in New York.
