About Timothy R

Timothy R. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies, concentration in Criminal Justice, from James Madison University in 2010. He went on to law school at New York Law School, completing his J.D. in 2013. Those academic years shaped his early interest in both criminal and civil practice and provided a foundation for the work that followed.

While still in law school, Johnson gained hands-on courtroom and office experience. He held a legal internship at Mangan Ginsberg LLP from June 2011 through May 2013 and then joined the firm as an associate in May 2013. In the summer of 2012 he worked in the civil division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, a placement that exposed him to federal civil litigation and investigative practice.

After earning his J.D. in 2013 and completing his associate work at Mangan Ginsberg LLP through the end of 2014, Johnson opened his own practice. In 2014 he became the principal lawyer at The Law Offices of Timothy R. Johnson, PLC. He has maintained that small firm platform since, taking responsibility for case management, client counseling and courtroom appearances.

Johnson is admitted to practice in New York, Virginia and New Jersey. He also serves as a court-appointed lawyer for misdemeanors through the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission, a certification that places him directly in the circuit and district courts handling lower-level criminal matters. That role reflects regular interaction with trial judges, clerks and public defenders, and it keeps him rooted in courtroom work.

Over the years his resume has blended public-sector internships and private practice. The mix of a federal civil internship and state-level criminal court appointments gives his work a practical, procedural orientation. He has navigated initial filings, client interviews and the day-to-day demands of a small firm practice. Associations and memberships are part of his professional life, and he keeps active connections to peers across the jurisdictions where he is licensed.

Johnson works from The Law Offices of Timothy R. Johnson, PLC and handles matters that arise in state and federal settings. He currently practices from that firm, where he handles criminal defense and civil matters across his admitted jurisdictions.
