Timothy R. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies, concentration in Criminal Justice, from James Madison University in 2010. He went on to law school at New York Law School, completing his J.D. in 2013. Those academic years shaped his early interest in both criminal and civil practice and provided a foundation for the work that followed.
While still in law school, Johnson gained hands-on courtroom and office experience. He also serves as a court-appointed lawyer for misdemeanors through the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission, a certification that places him directly in the circuit and district courts handling lower-level criminal matters. That role reflects regular interaction with trial judges, clerks and public defenders, and it keeps him rooted in courtroom work.
