About Timothy

Timothy Hutton studied psychology before turning to law. He earned a B.S. in Psychology from Arizona State University and later took his legal training at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his J.D. in 2009. The shift from behavioral science to law informs the way he approaches family disputes. It gives him an eye for the human side of cases as well as the legal mechanics.

He began handling family law matters shortly after finishing law school. In 2010 he opened Hutton Law, PLLC, and has worked there as a divorce and custody lawyer since then. His practice has largely centered on contested and uncontested divorces, settlements, and child custody litigation. He represents clients at hearings and in negotiations. He also prepares the paperwork and motions that move cases through family court.

Hutton is active in the local bar community. Since 2010 he has served as Technology Chair of the CAFA Section of the Austin Bar Association. In that role he has been involved in efforts to help attorneys understand and adopt practical tools for managing caseloads and court filings. The position keeps him connected to both procedural developments in family law and the day-to-day concerns of other practitioners.

Clients see him in the courtroom and at settlement tables. He manages discovery, prepares experts, and argues custody and property division issues when cases go to trial. He also handles post-judgment matters such as modifications and enforcement. The practice requires attention to detail and steady handling of schedules and deadlines. He brings those habits to each file.

Colleagues describe his practice style as straightforward. He tends to take a pragmatic approach to resolving disputes. He evaluates whether negotiation, mediation, or trial is likely to serve a client’s interests and lays out the options. The psychology background helps in assessing family dynamics. It also aids in preparing witnesses and clients for what to expect in court.

Outside the courtroom, he stays involved in local bar initiatives and the practical side of legal work. He maintains a practice that balances courtroom representation with negotiated resolutions. He currently represents individuals in divorce and child custody matters at Hutton Law, PLLC.
