About Timothy
Timothy Hessinger earned his J.D. from Stetson University in 1990. He began his legal career soon after, entering a field that would keep him largely in the criminal justice arena.
Early in his career he was associated with the Pinellas County State Lawyer's Office from 1990 to 2005. During that period he handled matters that brought him regular court appearances. He holds current membership in the Florida State Bar and is admitted to practice in Florida. He also maintains membership in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Hessinger has taken on roles beyond courtroom work. He served as chairman of the Florida Sex Crimes Network from 1999 to 2005. He taught as an adjunct professor at St. Petersburg College between 2003 and 2006. Those positions added teaching and leadership to the practical work of trial practice.
His associations reflect a long involvement in criminal law. He is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Clearwater Bar Association. He currently serves as Lead Trial Lawyer in a Domestic Violence Unit, a role that places him regularly in contested hearings and jury trials. The combination of trial assignments and organizational work has kept him engaged in the procedural and policy questions that affect criminal cases.
Over more than three decades in and around courtrooms, Hessinger has worked on cases that include domestic violence and sex offenses, among other criminal charges. He has handled matters at the state level and has the credential to appear in federal court in the Middle District of Florida. Courtroom experience is a throughline of his career, and he has repeatedly returned to trial work rather than limiting his practice to advisory roles.
Today he practices under The Law Office of Timothy Hessinger, with offices in St. Petersburg and Clearwater. His current practice centers on criminal defense work in Florida, with an emphasis on domestic violence and sex crimes.
