About Tim
Tim Clancy built a career that moves between courthouse strategy and courtroom practice. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Texas Tech University in 1996 and took his law degree from South Texas College of Law, receiving a J.D. in 2002. Those studies set the foundation for work on both sides of the criminal justice system.
He began in a law clerk role at Hinton, Sussman, Bailey and Davidson in 2000. The experience exposed him to case preparation and research at the trial level. In 2003 he joined the Tarrant County District Lawyer’s Office as a felony prosecutor. That prosecutorial work involved preparing felony cases for trial and handling courtroom matters in county courts.
Clancy returned to trial work in private practice several years later. In 2007 he joined Clancy & Clancy Lawyers at Law as a partner and has practiced there since. During 2007 and 2008 he also served as a special prosecutor for Dallas County and for the Dallas County State Prosecutors, handling matters the counties assigned to him.
On the credentials side, Clancy holds a license to practice law in Texas and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He has also engaged with the College of the State Bar of Texas through continuing legal education programs and related activities.
He maintains memberships in several local legal organizations. He is active in the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and has been a member of the Dallas Bar Association since the mid-2000s. He has held membership in the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and the Jesuit Alumni Legal Society, and he spent earlier years as a member of the Texas District & County Lawyers Association. In 2012 Clancy appeared as a speaker at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, giving a presentation to fraternity members on DWI and alcohol laws.
Clancy’s practice draws on his time as a prosecutor and his years defending clients. He handles criminal defense matters at the state and federal level, including felony cases and DWI matters. The mix of prosecutorial and defense work shapes how he evaluates evidence and prepares for trial. He has represented clients in contested hearings and negotiated resolutions when that course served his clients’ interests.
He currently practices criminal defense at Clancy & Clancy Lawyers at Law, handling state and federal matters in Texas.
