About Thomas
Thomas Upchurch earned his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University in 2002. He built his career in Florida law soon after finishing school. He is part of the state’s legal community and has combined practice and civic involvement over the past two decades.
After law school Upchurch moved into practice in Florida. He joined professional groups that align with elder law interests early in his career. Since 2005 he has held membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys. Those long-standing affiliations have framed much of his professional activity.
Upchurch is active in local organizations as well as professional ones. He serves on the executive board of the Ormond Beach Rotary. He also holds a board position with the Volusia County Bar. His roles on those boards place him in regular contact with both community leaders and fellow lawyers.
His work centers on elder law and estate planning, and his memberships signal sustained engagement in those areas. He handles matters that commonly arise for older clients and their families. That includes planning for incapacity, helping families understand long-term care options, and addressing end-of-life legal affairs. He assists clients in organizing documents and decisions so they are clear when they must be used.
Colleagues describe Upchurch as practical in approach. He favors straightforward explanations over legalistic language. Clients receive counsel aimed at practical outcomes. He approaches each matter by identifying the legal tools that fit a client’s situation and then explaining the trade-offs involved.
Beyond individual representation, Upchurch contributes to the legal community through the Volusia County Bar board. The position involves coordinating local legal education and supporting bar activities. On the civic side, his role with the Ormond Beach Rotary places him in community service and local initiatives that extend beyond legal practice.
He continues to practice in Florida and remains engaged in both elder law associations and local boards. His current practice focuses on elder law and estate planning matters.
