Thomas Ray Barnes is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1992. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Barnes is the principal attorney at Thomas R. Barnes Attorney at Law, a law firm located in Marina del Rey, California. He has been practicing law for over 25 years, serving clients throughout Los Angeles County and the greater Southern California area.

Mr. Barnes earned his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in 1992. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Los Angeles, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1980. He furthered his education with a Master of Arts in Education from UCLA in 1984. During his time at Loyola Law School, he was recognized for his contributions to family law by the Speaker of the California Assembly, the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law, and Bet Tzedek Legal Services.

Mr. Barnes concentrates his practice in the areas of family law and estate planning. He represents individuals and families in matters involving divorce, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, property division, prenuptial agreements, paternity, and domestic violence. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. Additionally, he offers mediation services for clients seeking to resolve disputes outside of court.

Throughout his career, Mr. Barnes has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Century City for five years. He also serves as a court-appointed attorney for minor children involved in high-conflict custody cases.

Mr. Barnes is an active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the California State Bar Association. He holds membership in the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. He is also a certified mediator through the Los Angeles County Superior Court mediation program. Mr. Barnes is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Los Angeles County effectively.
