About Thomas

Thomas Kiley built his legal foundation in Massachusetts. He earned a B.S. from Salem State College in 1971 and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1974. Those years set the stage for a career that has been anchored in the state ever since.

Kiley began his professional life in public service. In 1975 he joined the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an Assistant Lawyer General. He moved into private practice the next year, taking an associate position at Swartz & Swartz in 1976. A year later he joined Herlihy & O Brien as an associate, continuing to develop courtroom and litigation experience early in his career.

A turning point came in 1987 when he founded Kiley Law Group, LLC and became its principal. He established the firm’s Boston office and has led it since. Over time the firm became the center of his practice and professional efforts. He remains identified with that firm and its local office.

Outside the office he has been active in bar and trial organizations for decades. He is a member of the American Bar Association and has belonged to the American Association for Justice since 1977. He joined the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers’ Board of Governors in 1980 and took on a leadership role in the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division beginning in 1981, a position he continues to hold according to available records.

Colleagues describe Kiley as steady and experienced in courtroom settings. He has spent much of his career handling matters that require courtroom preparation and advocacy. His early years in the Attorney General’s office gave him insight into public law practice, and his subsequent decades in private practice gave him an opportunity to refine trial procedures and client representation skills.

He practiced and taught himself through changing rules and shifting court procedures. That long view of practice informs how he manages cases at his firm today. He keeps the firm rooted in Massachusetts courts and maintains professional affiliations that keep him engaged with developments in trial practice.

Kiley currently leads Kiley Law Group, LLC from its Boston office and represents clients in matters arising in Massachusetts courts.
