About Thomas E.
Thomas E. Brown earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1970 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at Marquette University in 1968. He entered the legal profession at a time of change in the American court system and has maintained a long connection to the Milwaukee legal community since completing his studies.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the courts of the State of Wisconsin. Those admissions have allowed him to handle matters at both the trial and appellate levels over many years.
Brown has been of counsel at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown, LLP since 1978, a role that followed his early years practicing in the Milwaukee area. His involvement in professional organizations has been steady. He has held leadership positions in local and state bar groups, serving as chairman of The State Bar of Wisconsin's Criminal Law Section from 1987 to 1988 and as a director of the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association. He remains active in the Milwaukee Bar Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin.
Over the course of his career he joined several associations tied to litigation and criminal defense work. He is a member of the 7th Circuit Bar Association, the Wisconsin Association of Trial Lawyers, and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also serves on the State Bar of Wisconsin Committee on Revision of Homicide Laws, a role that connects practical courtroom experience with efforts to examine and update statutory language.
In court he has appeared in federal and state venues, handling matters that require preparation for trial and argument at different judicial levels. His work has involved criminal defense and trial practice, and he has experience managing cases that move between district courts and the appellate bench. Colleagues point to his steady presence in Milwaukee’s legal scene and his sustained contributions to bar committees and professional groups.
He currently practices at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown, LLP, where he concentrates on criminal defense and trial work.
