About Thomas D. Bourgeois

Thomas D. Bourgeois Jr. earned his law degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2016 after completing a Bachelor of Science at Tulane University in 2013. He arrived in law practice during a busy period for courts in Louisiana and carried a steady academic record into his first legal job. Those formative years shaped how he approaches case preparation and courtroom work.

He began practicing at Kean Miller LLP in 2016. The firm placement offered immediate exposure to matters in both state and federal courts. Early in his career he took on research, motions practice and courtroom appearances, building experience across a range of disputes handled by the firm. Colleagues describe him as methodical in trial preparation and concise at oral argument.

Bourgeois is admitted to practice in Louisiana and holds admissions to the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana. He is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Those credentials allow him to file and argue matters at trial and on appeal in the region. He maintains membership in the Louisiana State Bar and participates in bar-related activities tied to court procedure and ethics.

His courtroom work spans appearances in district courts and filings before the Fifth Circuit. He has handled motion practice, discovery disputes and pretrial strategy for clients, and he regularly prepares briefs and legal memoranda. He is familiar with federal procedural rules and state practice norms, an experience set that guides how he approaches case timelines and client updates.

Outside the courtroom he has contributed to internal firm training on procedural changes and evidence practice. He mentors junior associates on drafting and on managing client expectations during litigation. He keeps current on recent decisions from the Fifth Circuit and the Louisiana appellate courts, which inform his trial and appellate strategies.

He remains based at Kean Miller LLP and continues to practice in both state and federal forums. He currently handles litigation matters that arise in Louisiana courts and in the federal districts that serve the state, including appeals to the Fifth Circuit.
