About Thomas B.
Thomas B. Burton built his legal foundation at the University of Wisconsin system. He earned a B.B.A. in Business Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire in 2008. He completed his J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2010.
He moved into practical legal work right after law school. In 2010 he spent a summer as a law clerk at Herrick & Hart S.C. The following year he worked as a research law clerk in the trusts and estates department at Briggs and Morgan P.A. Those early roles offered hands-on experience in firm practice and estate matters. By 2013 he was practicing under his own name at the Law Office of Thomas B. Burton. He later served as an associate at David F. Grams & Associates in 2016 and again operated the Law Office of Thomas B. Burton that same year. In 2020 he began practicing through Burton Law LLC.
Burton is admitted to practice in Wisconsin, the U.S. Tax Court and Minnesota. The Tax Court admission and his time in a trusts and estates department are among the concrete markers of his early caseload. Much of his career has unfolded in smaller firm settings and solo practice, where he has handled matters that typically arise for individuals and local businesses. He has combined courtroom filings, research and client advising in the course of representing clients in state and federal matters.
Outside of the office he has kept ties to the Chippewa Valley community. He has been a member of the Young Professionals of the Chippewa Valley since 2013 and joined the Chippewa Valley After Hours Rotary in 2014. From 2018 to 2023 he served on the board of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association Chippewa Valley Chapter. He also lists a membership that dates to 2011 and continues to the present.
His current practice operates under Burton Law LLC and is based in the Chippewa Valley. He maintains admissions that allow him to bring tax court matters and state practice into his work, and his recent years in private practice reflect that blend of tax and estate-related work as part of client matters.
