About Teresa
Teresa Ombres is an attorney specializing in family law, with a particular focus on divorce, mediation, and collaborative law. She is the principal of The Law & Mediation Offices of Teresa Ombres, PLLC, located at 1010 Northern Boulevard, Suite 320, Great Neck, NY 11021. With over 45 years of legal experience, Teresa has dedicated much of her career to addressing family law matters. Her extensive background in this field allows her to provide comprehensive legal services tailored to the needs of her clients. A graduate of Fordham University, Teresa earned her Bachelor’s degree before attending New York Law School, where she received her Juris Doctor. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1981, followed by her admission to the New Jersey State Bar in 1995.
In 1996, Teresa expanded her practice to include mediation, becoming trained in both community and divorce mediation. This pivotal decision marked a significant shift in her career — This lets the attorney assist clients in resolving disputes amicably. From 2000 to 2003, Teresa served as the Director of the Custody-Visitation Mediation Program at Community Mediation Services for the Queens Family Court. In 2001, she was among the first group of New York City lawyers and mediators trained in Collaborative Divorce, a progressive approach that emphasizes cooperation over conflict. This training has equipped her to facilitate constructive dialogues between parties, fostering resolutions that prioritize the well-being of children and families. Teresa is actively involved in various professional organizations that promote best practices in family law.
She served on the Board of Directors of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York for eight years and was a founding member and Treasurer of the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Currently, she serves on the Board of the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. Additionally, she is a member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Queens County Bar Association. In her commitment to education and professional development, Teresa has taught the Judicial Matrimonial ADR Externship at St. John’s University School of Law since 2009. She also co-teaches the Family Law Mediation Practicum at the Maurice A.
Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.
