About Tara L.

Tara L. Shaw graduated from Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2004. Her educational path combined a broad interest in public affairs with formal training in the law. She left law school prepared to practice in both state and federal settings.

After law school, Shaw began practicing in Connecticut. She is admitted to the Connecticut bar and authorized to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Federal Circuit. She also holds admission to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. Those admissions have shaped the contours of her work, allowing her to pursue matters in state courts and in federal forums when cases require it.

Shaw concentrates her practice in labor and employment matters. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section and holds membership in SHRM, which reflects an ongoing engagement with workplace law and human resources issues. Her involvement in those organizations keeps her connected to developments that affect employers, managers, and HR professionals across the state.

Local ties matter in her career. Shaw maintains active membership in the Waterbury Bar Association, which places her in regular contact with fellow practitioners and judges in the region. That local involvement informs how she approaches case strategy and client problems, often emphasizing practical solutions suitable for both court and workplace settings. Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing matters for court and careful in crafting advice that aligns with current legal standards.

Her work spans a range of employment-related disputes and compliance questions. Because she is admitted in both state and federal courts, she handles issues that may proceed in different venues depending on the legal claims at stake. She consults on workplace policy, defends and prosecutes employment litigation, and advises on procedural matters tied to federal filings when required.

Shaw maintains an office at 41 Church Street, where she meets with clients and manages casework. She balances courtroom preparation with counseling on day-to-day employment issues, and she continues to engage with professional groups that follow changes in labor and employment law. She currently focuses her practice on labor and employment matters.
