About Tara
Tara Brown moved from a business undergraduate degree into law, completing her B.A. in Business Administration at the University of Phoenix in 2006 and earning a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law 6Newark in 2011. The move from business studies to law informed her approach to client problems. She combines the practical language of commerce with the analytic methods taught in law school.
Her early years after law school led to private practice. In 2015 she opened The Law Office of Tara Brown, a solo practice that handled a range of client matters and established her as a resource for people and businesses needing counsel across state lines. That experience as a firm owner sharpened her case-management skills and gave her direct responsibility for every aspect of running a practice, from client intake to courtroom preparation.
In 2022 she joined Whitbeck Bennett PLLC as a partner. That move brought her into a larger firm setting and expanded the scope of work she handles. At the same time, it preserved the hands-on client contact she developed as a practice owner. Colleagues describe her as methodical and exacting in document preparation and practical when mapping out next steps with clients.
Brown is admitted to practice in New Jersey, Virginia and New York and maintains membership in the Virginia State Bar. Her multi-jurisdictional admissions allow her to represent clients whose matters cross state boundaries. She works with both individual clients and small businesses on legal issues that touch more than one state 6for example, contracts, transactions and disputes that involve parties in different jurisdictions.
Her background in business administration frequently surfaces in client work. She uses that training to frame legal problems in commercial terms. Clients report she explains options in plain language and lays out potential outcomes and costs so they can make informed decisions. Her litigation files and transactional matters both reflect that practical orientation.
Brown continues to practice from her role as partner at Whitbeck Bennett PLLC. Her current practice focuses on serving clients across New Jersey, New York and Virginia through the firm, applying her combined business and legal training to matters that span those jurisdictions.
