About T. Melissa

T. Melissa Gotfredson built her legal foundation at the University of Minnesota Law School after completing an undergraduate degree in finance at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. She arrived at law school equipped with numerical training and a practical sense of how legal rules affect business and everyday decisions. The combination shaped the early arc of her legal thinking and still informs how she approaches client matters.

After law school, Gotfredson entered practice in Minnesota and has remained licensed in that state. Her résumé mixes courtroom work, client counseling and pro bono efforts. Over the years she has balanced paid practice with steady volunteer service, finding time to take direct responsibilities on behalf of people who lack regular access to legal help.

Volunteer work has been a consistent part of her career. She serves as a volunteer lawyer at the Children’s Law Center, representing or advising young clients on matters that affect their well-being. She also volunteers for Wills for Heroes, preparing estate planning documents for first responders and military personnel. These roles have exposed her to a range of client needs and sharpened her practical problem-solving in emotionally charged situations.

Gotfredson maintains active professional memberships. She belongs to the American Bar Association, the Minnesota Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association and Minnesota Women Lawyers. Those affiliations provide a forum for continuing legal education and peer discussion. They also reflect her ongoing engagement with the broader legal community in Minneapolis and across the state.

Colleagues describe her as methodical in case preparation and clear in client communications. She tends to break complex issues into manageable parts and explain options plainly. That approach shows both in paid matters and in volunteer clinics, where clients often need straightforward guidance on tight timelines.

She lives and practices in Minnesota. Her current practice centers on client representation in state matters and is complemented by volunteer work involving children’s legal issues and the preparation of wills and related estate documents for service members and first responders.
