About T. Cody
T. Cody Farrens built his legal career steadily after finishing law school in 2010. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law that year, following undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska Omaha completed in 2004. He is licensed to practice in South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska, and has worked in those jurisdictions throughout his career.
His earliest post-law school role was as an associate at Klass Law Office in 2010. That position gave him day-to-day courtroom exposure and a grounding in litigation practice. Six years later he opened Farrens Law Office, taking on the responsibilities of running a small practice while continuing client work and court appearances.
Farrens moved back into partnership roles beginning in 2019. He joined Fankhauser, Farrens & Rachel, PLC as a partner, then became a partner at Vriezelaar, Tigges, Edgington, Bottaro, Boden & Lessmann Law Office in 2021. In 2023 he took on a partner position at Tigges, Bottaro & Lessmann, LLP. Those moves reflect a shift from solo practice to collaborative firm environments and expanded case handling.
He remains active in professional circles. He has been a member of the Iowa Association for Justice since 2021 and participates in the Iowa State Bar Association Mock Trial Program, also since 2021. Those memberships keep him connected to peers and to practical training opportunities for new advocates.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and methodical in preparation. He has balanced litigation responsibilities with administrative work required of partners. Over time he has taken on supervisory tasks, firm management duties and mentoring of junior attorneys while continuing to appear in hearings and trials across multiple state courts.
Clients have encountered him at various stages of cases: initial intake, pretrial motions and courtroom hearings. He is comfortable handling matters that require coordination across state lines, given his admissions in three neighboring jurisdictions. That practical familiarity with regional courts and procedures is a recurring thread in his work.
Outside the office Farrens has remained tied to legal education through the mock trial program. That involvement connects him to law students and newer lawyers and keeps him involved in practical legal instruction.
He currently serves as a partner at Tigges, Bottaro & Lessmann, LLP and represents clients in matters across South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.
