About Sydney
Sydney Strickland built her legal foundation in the Southeast. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2008 from the University of Mississippi, double-majoring in psychology and political science after beginning her studies in 2004. She then attended the University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa and received her J.D. in 2011.
Early in her career she moved into appellate work. In 2012 she served as a staff lawyer in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals Staff Lawyer’s Office. In that role she supported judicial panels through legal research, preparation of bench memoranda and drafting materials used in opinion writing. The position placed her at the center of federal appeals practice and exposed her to a broad array of civil and procedural issues that arise on appeal.
Her professional experience centers on appellate litigation and the written side of advocacy. She has handled complex legal research and the drafting of appellate briefs and memoranda. Colleagues say she pays attention to the structure of legal argument and to the precise use of precedent. That approach suits appeals, where a single brief or oral argument can steer the outcome of a case. She has worked on matters that required close parsing of statutes and careful review of trial records.
Outside the courthouse she maintains ties to the bar. She is a current member of professional associations and participates in events that address appellate practice and federal procedure. She has taught newer lawyers the mechanics of brief writing and how to distill lengthy records into focused appellate issues. Her work remains concentrated on appeals and the legal writing that supports them. She currently concentrates her practice on appellate matters and related federal litigation.
