About Susan
Susan Winston earned a B.A. in history from the College of William and Mary in 2001 and a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 2004. Her academic path put her on a courtroom track early. The combination of a liberal arts background and a three-year law program set a foundation for both trial work and teaching.
She began her legal career in the Office of the Public Defender for Florida’s 15th Judicial Circuit, joining as an assistant public defender in 2004. That role placed her in front of juries and judges from the start. She handled arraignments, pretrial preparation and courtroom litigation for clients who relied on public defense services.
By 2010 Winston had added teaching to her professional life. She served as an adjunct professor at Palm Beach State College that year and also worked as head legal instructor for the Palm Beach Lakes High School Pre-Law Academy. Those positions extended her courtroom experience into classrooms. Students at both the college and high school levels encountered real-world legal practice and courtroom procedure under her instruction.
In 2011 she took the next step and became a founding partner of Winston Law, P.A. The firm grew out of years of trial-level public defense work and classroom instruction. Alongside her work at the firm, she has maintained active professional memberships. She belongs to The Florida Bar (since 2004), the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the Florida Association of Women Lawyers and the Palm Beach Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, each of which she joined in 2011 and continues to maintain.
Winston’s career shows a steady movement from public service toward private practice while keeping ties to legal education. She has balanced courtroom responsibilities with teaching roles and professional association activity. Those threads continue to define her work today. She represents clients in criminal defense matters in Florida.
