About Susan

Susan Fremit began her academic path at the University of Calgary, earning a Bachelor of Arts with a major in French and a minor in Spanish. She returned to the same university for her LL.B., which she received in 1989. Soon after completing law school she served as a legal articling student at Donaldson, Donaldson & Greenaway. Years later she added an LL.M. in Litigation from The George Washington University Law School in 2003.

Her career in private practice dates to 1991, when she established the Law Office of Susan F. Fremit. That firm has operated in several Virginia locations over the years. Records show offices in Arlington in 2008, in Spotsylvania in 2012, and in Caroline County in 2016. Those moves track a practice that has shifted physically while maintaining a steady focus on courtroom work and client representation.

Fremit is admitted in multiple jurisdictions. She holds membership in the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1991, and she is admitted to practice in Virginia. She is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Her cross-border education and early roots in Canada inform a practice shaped by experience in both systems.

Her casework has been rooted in criminal defense and trial practice. She has held memberships in organizations tied to that work, including the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College for DUI Defense, which she joined in 2016. She was a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for a shorter period, listed as 2016 to 2017. Local bar association ties include the Arlington Bar Association, the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association and earlier participation in the Fairfax County Bar Association.

Fremit's involvement in bar organizations stretches back decades. She served as treasurer of the Essex County Bar Association from 1999 to 2001 and was a member there beginning in 1991. She has maintained a Virginia Bar Association membership since 2004. Among her continuing professional education is a certificate of completion for Gun Law in Virginia from the National Business Institute.

Today she operates the Law Office of Susan F. Fremit, P.C., maintaining a location in Spotsylvania. She handles criminal defense matters, DUI and firearms-related issues, and trial work for clients in state and federal courts.
