About Stuart
Stuart Nachbar built a legal career that moves from courtroom work to running his own practice. He completed a B.S. in political science and history at the State University of New York at Albany in 1986 and earned his J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1994. Earlier training includes a paralegal certification from Adelphi University, a credential that preceded his entry into trial work.
He began handling trials in the late 1990s. In 1997 he served as a senior trial lawyer at the Law Office of Chet Preston. That prosecutorial-style experience carried into his role as senior trial counsel at the Law Office of Sal Greenman in 2001. In 2003 he joined Middlebrooks Shapiro & Nachbar, P.C. as a partner. Over the next decade he combined litigation, bankruptcy work and professional-ethics involvement before opening his own firm. Since 2012 he has operated the Law Office of Stuart M. Nachbar, P.C.
Alongside private practice he has taken on duties tied to the profession’s oversight structures. In 2006 he served as an investigator and held committee membership at the Office of Lawyer Ethics of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for District V-B. He also served on the Suburban Essex Ethics Committee from 2007 to 2012. Those roles gave him a grounding in disciplinary processes and investigative procedures.
His court admissions cover both state and federal forums. He is admitted in New Jersey and New York and to practice before the 2nd and 3rd U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Tax Court. That mix of admissions reflects a practice that includes federal litigation as well as state-court matters.
Professional associations have been a steady part of his career. He has been active in the Federal Bar Association since 2003 and has held membership in the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers since 2009. He participated in the Bankruptcy Inns of Court, serving as a barrister and later chairing that group from 2008 to 2010, and co-chaired its programming committee from 2006 to 2008. Other memberships include Phi Alpha Delta, the Morris Essex Small Firm Network and the World Wide Registry of Executives & Professionals. He also served as general counsel to the Veterans Chamber of Commerce–NJ from 2014 to 2017.
Clients and colleagues describe a practitioner who combines courtroom experience, bankruptcy knowledge and an understanding of professional-ethics processes. He represents parties in bankruptcy and related consumer matters, handles contested litigation, and participates in administrative and disciplinary proceedings. His current practice focuses on bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy and related litigation in both federal and state courts.
