About Barry E.
Barry E. Janay built his academic foundation across two coasts. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and Government from Rollins College in 2000. He returned to school in San Francisco and completed both a J.D. and an M.B.A. at Golden Gate University in 2003, studying law alongside business law, finance, economics and management.
His early career put him inside corporate legal departments. In 2004 he served as general counsel for Tradepaq Corporation and for CSI Complex Systems, Inc. Those roles involved contract negotiations, vendor agreements and routine corporate governance work. He moved into positions that mixed corporate practice with technology and financial services law.
By 2007 he was working in litigation and dispute resolution as of counsel at MasurLaw. He later served as of counsel at two other practices in 2009, bringing experience from both transactional and courtroom environments. In 2010 he is listed as senior counsel at Rick, Steiner, Fell & Benowitz, LLP, a role that continued his work on civil litigation and regulatory matters.
Janay also held in-house leadership roles. He was chief legal officer at BankTrade BT Systems, LLC in 2008. Later he was chief legal officer for Vested, a communications agency, beginning in 2017. Those positions required overseeing legal operations, managing outside counsel and advising senior management on compliance and risk issues.
Today he serves as CEO of The Law Office of Barry E. Janay, P.C. That practice follows a steady path from corporate general counsel to outside counsel and back to running a private firm. His resume reflects work inside businesses and in private practice, and it shows a willingness to shift between transactional assignments and litigation tasks.
His admissions include the bars of New York and New Jersey, and federal practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, as well as the Second Circuit. He is a member of professional groups including the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York County Lawyers Association and the New Jersey State Bar. He also participates in community and social organizations such as the Morris Aero Club and the Brotherhood of Protective Order of Elks in Summit, New Jersey.
Janay balances courtroom work and corporate counseling. He handles commercial litigation, corporate governance questions and regulatory matters through his firm, The Law Office of Barry E. Janay, P.C., where his practice focuses on corporate counsel work, commercial disputes and related compliance issues.
