About Steven G.

Steven G. Pietrick has spent decades in Illinois law. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1977. That academic foundation in government and planning shaped an early interest in public and private law alike.

Pietrick moved into private practice and built a career that led to partnership. In 2003 he became a partner at Stone & Johnson, Chtd. The firm role followed years of work inside the Illinois legal community and a steady accumulation of courtroom and advisory work. He has practiced under Illinois jurisdiction throughout his career.

Pietrick took on prominent roles in the Illinois State Bar Association in the mid-2000s. He chaired the Standing Committee on Professional Conduct from 2004 to 2005. He then served as chair of the Civil Practice & Procedure Section Council from 2005 to 2006. Those positions placed him in conversations about ethical standards and civil procedure among state practitioners and policymakers.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in approach. He has balanced litigation tasks with advisory responsibilities tied to rules and conduct. His ISBA leadership roles required both substantive knowledge and an ability to weigh competing perspectives within the bar. He handled committee work that touched on disciplinary and procedural matters.

Pietrick’s practice has combined courtroom work with counsel to other lawyers and firms on professional responsibilities. He has been involved in cases and consultations where civil procedure and ethics intersect. That combination of skills has made him a familiar presence to lawyers who seek guidance on practice-related questions as well as to clients engaged in civil disputes.

Outside of association leadership, much of his career has been centered at Stone & Johnson, Chtd. There he moved into firm leadership and contributed to case strategy, client counseling, and internal governance. His long tenure at the firm reflects a steady professional trajectory rather than periodic shifts in practice.

He remains active in Illinois legal circles and brings years of experience to both litigation and advisory roles. He concentrates his practice on civil litigation and professional responsibility matters.
