About Andrew
Andrew May earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign (1992) and later a J.D. from DePaul University (1995). His education placed him in the Chicago-area legal community at a time when corporate and financial practices were expanding. The combination of a public university undergraduate degree and a law degree from a city law school shaped an approach that moves easily between business settings and courtroom demands.
His early professional steps began in-house. In 1995 he served as general counsel at Access Financial Group, taking on the kinds of day-to-day legal tasks that in-house environments require. He returned to law firm practice in 2000 as an associate at Henderson & Lyman. That period tested and broadened his experience in client representation and firm operations.
May became a partner at Lewitas & May in 2004. Two years later he launched May Law, PC as owner and partner, a move that placed him squarely in the role of managing client relationships and overseeing a small firm’s caseload. In 2018 he took on a partner role at Chuhak & Tecson, moving back into a larger firm setting where collaborative practice and shared resources are standard. Across those transitions he has worked on both transactional matters and disputes, shifting roles as the work required.
Licensed to practice in Illinois, May’s background spans in-house counsel duties and a succession of private-practice positions. He has handled matters that require contract review, client counseling and courtroom advocacy at different points in his career. Those varied roles mean he knows both the internal legal needs of businesses and the external pressures that litigation and regulatory matters can create.
Colleagues describe him as steady in handling client files and practical in resolving problems. He has navigated leadership responsibilities, from running his own firm to serving as a partner in larger practices. That combination of management and legal work informs how he advises clients and organizes case strategy.
May is based in Illinois and is associated with Hinshaw & Culbertson. He currently practices at Hinshaw & Culbertson and focuses on business and corporate legal matters.
