About Steven A.
Steven A. Schwartz began his academic path at the University of Rochester, where he completed a double major in political science and psychology in 1988. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law in 1991. His coursework included concentrated study in tort law, a subject that has informed much of his legal training.
After law school, Schwartz gained admission to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Those admissions have allowed him to work on matters that proceed in both state and federal forums. Over the years he has maintained a practice based in Massachusetts, appearing in trial and appellate settings as circumstances required.
Schwartz practices at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C., a firm that bears his family name. His professional life has been rooted in private practice, where handling client matters day to day demands attention to procedure and strategy. He has worked on a range of civil issues and has experience managing cases through the various stages of litigation.
Outside the office he has contributed to the bar’s institutional life. In 2006 he joined the Law Practice Management Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association. He has continued his involvement on that council, taking part in conversations about how law offices run, how firms manage resources, and how lawyers adapt to changing professional obligations. His participation reflects an interest in the practical side of legal practice as much as the substantive side.

He remains based at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C., where he handles civil matters in the Massachusetts courts and, when appropriate, matters that proceed in the federal appellate system.
