Steven A. Garner began his professional life as an engineer and later moved into law, carrying technical training into legal work that intersects technology and business. He holds a B.S. in engineering from Rutgers College of Engineering and earned a JD/MBA in 2002 from Rutgers School of Law. That dual degree shaped both his approach to client problems and the kinds of matters he accepts.
After completing his undergraduate degree in 1996, Garner worked as a design engineer at DLB Associates. The hands-on experience in product development and technical design provided a practical grounding in the engineering issues he would later encounter in patent and intellectual property matters. He returned to Rutgers for law school and business studies, finishing the JD/MBA in 2002.
Garner began his legal career immediately after law school at Lerner, David, Littenberg, Krumholz & Mentlik, joining the firm in 2002. He moved to an in-house role with Con Air Corporation in 2004, where he handled a range of corporate and transactional matters. In 2007 he opened his own practice, Steven A. Garner, Lawyer at Law, LLC, and has operated that office since. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, memberships that he has maintained since 2003. He also is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. On the local bar front, Garner holds memberships in the Monmouth Bar Association and the Somerset County Bar Association. He serves as a barrister in the Haydn Proctor Inn of Court, an organization that brings together judges and lawyers for mentoring and professional discussion.
