About Steve

Steve Mansbery earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve University in 2006 after completing a bachelor’s degree in finance at the University of Kentucky in 2003. He moved from a business-oriented undergraduate background into law school eager to translate analytical training into courtroom and counseling work. The academic path laid a practical foundation for the kind of work he would pursue in state courts.

Within the year he finished law school, Mansbery joined Tharrington Smith, LLP. He has been listed as a partner at the firm since 2006. Over two decades at the same firm have given him steady exposure to litigation, client advising, and courtroom procedure. His career has unfolded largely in North Carolina, where he is admitted to practice and where most of his professional memberships are based.

Mansbery earned board certification as a Family Law Specialist from the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. That credential reflects a concentrated practice and experience in family law matters. He holds memberships in several bar organizations that align with that practice area, including the North Carolina Bar Association and its Family Law Section, the Wake County Bar Association, and the 10th Judicial District Bar. He has also been involved with the North Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division Committee; his entries for these groups list membership beginning in 2006 and continuing to the present.

Colleagues describe Mansbery as steady in the courtroom and careful in preparation. He balances litigation against negotiation, choosing a path that best serves each client’s circumstances. His training at Case Western Reserve and earlier study in finance inform his approach to cases that involve assets and financial analysis.

Outside of casework he participates in bar committees and local professional activities in Wake County and the broader North Carolina bar community. Those activities keep him connected to shifts in family law practice and to changes in court procedure. He has remained at the same firm since 2006, where he combines trial practice with client counseling.

Mansbery continues to practice in North Carolina and is a board-certified family law specialist who handles family law matters for clients at Tharrington Smith, LLP where he has served since 2006. He currently focuses his practice on family law matters in North Carolina.
