About Stephen
Stephen Stallings built a legal career that spans private practice, federal prosecution and firm leadership. He earned a B.A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 and a J.D. from the University of Florida in 1992. Those academic steps set the stage for a career focused on criminal and regulatory matters.
He began practicing law shortly after law school. His earliest positions included roles at Shutts & Bowen and Holland & Knight, where he worked on litigation and investigations. In 1999 he became a partner at Hunton & Williams, a move that expanded his practice on complex commercial and white collar issues.
In 2001 Stallings moved into public service as an Assistant United States Lawyer at the Department of Justice. That time in the U.S. Attorney’s Office sharpened his courtroom skills and deepened his experience in federal prosecutions. He later returned to private practice and in 2008 opened The Law Offices of Stephen S. Stallings, Esq., serving as owner and managing partner. In 2011 he joined Burns White as a partner and chaired the White Collar & Government Enforcement section, splitting responsibilities between casework and managing a practice group.
Stallings is admitted to practice in Florida and Pennsylvania and is admitted to the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Eleventh Circuits. He is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Authorized Panel for the United States federal courts, allowing him to take appointed federal cases. His professional memberships include the Pennsylvania State Bar, the Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, the Association of American Trial Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who moves easily between trial work and complex investigations. He has handled matters that required coordination with federal agencies and has represented clients in both trial and appellate settings. Courtroom experience and time in a prosecutor’s office inform how he approaches defense strategy, evidence and witness preparation.
Today Stallings leads his own firm while maintaining ties to larger firm practice through past roles and collaborations. His work covers white collar defense, government enforcement matters and criminal litigation. His current practice centers on white-collar defense and government enforcement matters at The Law Offices of Stephen S. Stallings, Esq.
