About Stephen
Stephen Neyman earned a B.A. in Government from Lehigh University in 1984 and a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1987. He moved into practice immediately after law school, taking an associate position at Wilhelm, Thompson, Wentholt & Gibbs in 1987. Those first months in a firm setting exposed him to courtroom procedure and case preparation on a daily basis.
In 1988 he served as a deputy district lawyer in Los Angeles. That role put him behind the prosecutorial table and gave him regular trial experience. He handled arraignments, motions and preliminary hearings. The work sharpened trial instincts and an understanding of how cases develop from charging decisions through disposition.
By 1990 Neyman had launched the Law Offices of Stephen Neyman Criminal Lawyers. He has practiced criminal defense since then. His courtroom experience spans arraignment courts, trial courts and federal appellate venues. He is admitted in Massachusetts and California, is licensed in the District of Columbia, and holds admissions in the First and Ninth Circuit courts of appeals. That mix of state and federal practice underpins a caseload that ranges from misdemeanor matters to serious felony litigation.
Outside the courtroom he has stayed involved in professional groups that intersect with criminal law. He has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and has belonged to the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1989. He joined the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1995 and remains active. Those memberships reflect regular contact with peers and current issues in criminal procedure, evidence and appellate practice.
Colleagues describe Neyman as methodical in case preparation and direct at the lectern. He tends to brief issues concisely and to prioritize factual development early in a file. Clients have encountered him in jury trials, bench trials and plea negotiations. Over several decades of practice he has also worked on appeals in the federal circuits where he holds admission.
He maintains the Law Offices of Stephen Neyman Criminal Lawyers as his practice base. He continues to handle criminal defense matters and appellate work at that firm, representing clients in state and federal courts. His current practice is criminal defense at the Law Offices of Stephen Neyman Criminal Lawyers.
